ELECTROMAGNET
What is it for? It is used to attract litte pieces of iron
Materials : one 4,5 V battery; one meter of unipolar wire; one bolt
and one nut of soft iron,, one switch, two wire terminals, some pieces
of iron.
How is it made?
- Wind the unipolar wire around the
bolt, keeping the same rotation sense.
- Connect the wire to the switch
- close the circuit
by threading the wire into the wire terminals and connecting them to
the battery
- check if it works
- to improve the “look” of
the device, put it all into a container leaving out only the head of
the bolt and the switch.
How does it work? When the electric current flows,
the bolt is magnetized, so it can attract little pieces of iron.
This effect
stops if you open
the circuit.
