Travelling inside the Human Body

May 2009: pupils of these classes: 2E, 2F, 2G, 2H; teachers: R. Bettiol, S. Turra. Pupils from primary schools and parents visited this exhibits from 18th to 25th of May.

1. The poster
2. A class visiting our exhibition; onion cells are projected on the screen
3. During the visit
4. From right to left: organon, tissue, cell (no scale models)
5. From right to left: cell. molecule, atoms, nucleus (with protons and neutrons)
6. Models of molecules
7. Molecular models (glucose, carbon dioxide and oxigen)
8. Organic substances
9. Combustion of organic subsances
10. What is there inside an eucaryote cell?
11. Cellular model: the objects represent the functions of the inner parts
12. Another cellular model: the tennis ball represents the nucleus, the balloons filled with water the vacuoles...
13, 14. A model of the osmotic behaviour of the cellular membrane, that is represented by a polythene bag: the molecules of flour(violet with iodine solution) inside the cell don't cross the membrane; in fact the outside solution remains yellow.
15, 16. A model of the small intestine: the more folded the Kleenex are, the more water is adsorbed
17. The digestion in the mouth explained by testing the glucose presence:
testing tube # 1: bread and Fehling reagents
testing tube # 2: glucose and Fehling reagents
testing tube # 3: bread, saliva and Fehling reagents.
18. The gastric juice action:
beaker on the left with meat, water and HCl
beaker on the right with meat, water, HCl and pepsin
19, 20. Model of intestinal absorbtion: the smaller molecules of sugar pass through the filter, while the bigger amid molucules don't pass (the presence of amid is tested with iodine solution, the presence of sugar by taste

21, 22, 23, 24. Models of human lungs: breathing in, breathing out
25, 26. Measuring the lung capacity
27, 28. When we exhale, we produce CO2 (that turns the blue bromothymol green and makes the limewater cloudy).
29. A burning candle, like the respiration, produces C02, that turns the blue bromothymol green/yellow
30. The CO2 produced by the combustion extinguishs the flame
31. Burnt bones and bones treated with HCl
32. Bones: a model
33, 34, 35. The domino effect: a model to show how a nerve impulse is propagated along the nerve cells
36, 37. The sense of touch can be tricked
38, 39, 40. Finger tips are more sensitive than the forehead to the touch
41, 42, 43. How to collect finger prints.
44. The finger prints: an individual characteristic
45. A model of a heart valve
46, 47. The heart is a pump
48. If you spin the disk and watch its reflection in the mirror through a slit, you see the horses gallop!
49, 50. The sound vibrations makes the salt move.
51. Home made telephones: the sound runs along the string
52. The pinhole camera
53, 54, 55. Other moments during the exibitions in the Science lab of Coletti school
